Cousin Brooke

Kate met her second-cousin Brooke for the first time along with Brooke's Mom and Dad, Sal and Brian. Brooke is 3 years old and Kate was absolutely captivated by all that she was doing. They played with letters and measuring cups on the kitchen floor while all the moms gossiped and caught up on "stuff".

Sunday morning, Brooke had her first taste of biscuits and gravy (a Wood family standard). Not sure if it will be her favorite breakfast( ala Barrett) but she managed to eat a few bites.

Queenie has been babysitting while mom and Grandad have fished. Saturday was a good day on the Henry's Fork but today turned out to be not so good (only 2 fish versus 7 caught yesterday).
Final full day here tomorrow and still no crawling by Kate(but a whole lot of rolling). Looking forward to seeing Dad but sad to leave this beautiful place.

No one cried.

Kate's first plane ride was pretty uneventful. We took off from Austin around 7 and finally landed in Jackson Hole around noon (Mountain Time). Only one plane change, in Dallas, and the stroller/seat combo worked like a dream. Bottom line, neither of us cried.

We have been in Idaho for four days now. Kate really seems to like this place! Spent yesterday in Yellowstone Park where Kate got her first taste of tourists in mass. It was RV city everywhere we turned but we did get to see some bald eagles, and a baby elk learning to walk.

Kate's first tooth reared its head on Monday night/Tuesday. No tears but she sure loves to bite...my shoulder, my cheek, Queenie's finger, Grandad's knee, and anything else she can sink her tooth into. Looks like number 2 is on the way.

We have been cooking a bit. Mom/Queenie has made dinner every night. The flank steak last night was exceptional. I have helped with the baking although it only entailed making banana bread twice (first recipe made a really dry, now in trash bread). Second try was from the Every Day Fresh Farmer's Market cookbook that is now on my list of cookbooks to buy. No camera to take a picture but these muffins look like they are out of a bakery (and taste pretty yummy too-mucho banana taste).

Kate has finally taken her first real nap of the trip and seems to be stirring. Off to mix rice cereal (yum!).

Kate's New Doctor(updates on lbs!)

Went to the pediatrician on June 6-our NEW pediatrician. Her name is Dr Cardwell and we both just love her! So happy to have finally found someone we connect with! Now to the good stuff...Kate weighs in at 18 lbs. 14 oz and is 27 inches long! She is right there in the midst of the 25th to 50th percentile for 11 month olds...catching up quick!

One issue we did have (but it has all been resolved) was the size of Kate's head. Dr Cardwell was concerned about how quickly it has grown versus the rest of her body. A nurse had also expressed the same worry to me a couple of months ago. Bottom line is that Kate went for a CT scan the day after her appt and all turned out fine-whew! The whole episode was a good reminder of our little angel in heaven Luke who continues to watch out and protect his sister from harm.
