Grandad and Aunt Funny's Birthday

We ended the month on a high note-celebrating both Grandad and Aunt Funny with chicken fried steak and chocolate sheet cake. So reminded me of growing up as a Wood and loved that the girls got a taste of it all!

Photography class

Samantha and I both got new cameras for Christmas. The cameras were so great that both of us needed lessons to use them! We signed up for a local photography class. Not sure how much we actually retained but it was fun nonetheless. Here are some pictures taken during the class:

Back to school-January was all about discovering the Solar System

Was an early morning on January 6th-the first day back after break. Didn't seem to bother Miss Kate:

This month was all about Space. They built a space ship inside their classroom, hanging from the ceiling were all the planets(and moons and every child made a mobile of the solar system that were also hung above their heads, AND they all spent one day dressed as an assigned item in the system.
Here is a bit of their spaceship-it was hard to get a good picture due to the size and the kids playing in and on it!

Kate was the "Earth's moon" and she corrected me when I referred to her as "the moon", "it's the Earth's moon MOM". Here was the costume she wore:

They are finishing the month with maps/countries. Just found out that they will soon be learning about insects-oh joy!

As easy as riding a bike

No one thought it would take her very long and we were right. Lauren is now riding her bike without training wheels-four months later than her sister. So proud of both of them but it has made it even harder to keep them contained!

Winter fires

We love a good fire at this house. I think it is a genetic thing that passed down from Queenie to me and now the girls. Dan is a great fire starter and the girls love to help too. This winter has had its share of bitterly cold days and everyday since early December there has been a fire in the fireplace.

Grandad has been great about sharing the ranch firewood. Dan typically goes out to get it but some days we take our two sets of little hands to help.
Showing off their "work" gloves

She spent a lot more time in the truck than her sister did....

SO strong!

Lesson: don't ever tell her she can't do something....she will always prove you wrong

Red nose and cold hands didn't stop her

We weren't the only ones out enjoying the ranch

TCU Wins the Rose Bowl!

TCU finished their undefeated season by winning the Rose Bowl! We watched the game at Queenie and Grandad's house with Uncle B, Sam and LJ. After eating our black eyed peas and greens, we enjoyed cheering the frogs to victory! Great way to start the year!
